Care for your Judo gi
On every Judogi you should find a tag with washing instructions written on it.
However these some times worn out so let me remind you some basic principles as to how to keep your judo gi clean and in good condition.
Washing machine at 30° C maximum (cold water)
Wash separately to other colour gis. When new, blue judo gis “bleed” during the wash.
If possible, wash your judo gi separate to other clothes. Some gis are heavy and may interrupt the washing trying process.
Use the right amount of detergent. Too much of it, does not clean better and if poorly rinsed could damage it and promote mould.
DO not use the dryer.
When Iron use medium heat.
You should wash your judo gi every 3 or 4 judo classes
After each judo session, take your judi gi out of your bag and air it. This will ensure is try for your next session and prevent mould and unpleasant odours.
Judo Belts
I am often asked if we should wash the belt or not?
Belts could be washed, once in a while.
The same washing principles as listed above for the judo gi could be followed. However, belt may shrink a lot - but usually stretch back into almost its original length.
- Please remember that coloured belts will bleed” during the wash so do not wash them with your judo gi.
